How the Vertical ‘Closed Loop’ System Works
The loops themselves are plastic pipes filled with a water and an anti-freeze mixture that is closed off and re-circulated. This underground system uses a low wattage pump to continuously circulate the mixture through the installed loops. The loops are constructed in drilled borings and they connect to your home. In the winter, geothermal energy is collected by the mixture in the pipes and brought up to the house. Then, the heat pump converts it to warm air. In the summer, warm, air is collected from throughout the house, then it is migrated back into he ground.
